Maya Angela Smith is an Associate Professor of French at the University of Washington. Her scholarship focuses primarily on the intersection of racial and linguistic identity formations among marginalized groups in the Francophone African diaspora. Her current project is geared toward general audiences interested in cultural and social aspects of the entertainment industry, particularly the racialized and gendered experiences of those who participate in music and fashion.
