MoPOP Launches New Virtual Graphic Novels Student Club For March-June 2022

February 8, 2022

What’s more fun than nerding out over your favorite thing with your peers? Pretty much nothing, as far as we’re concerned. That’s why we hold our virtual student clubs, so that students have an opportunity to connect with each other over their shared passions.

What’s more fun than nerding out over your favorite thing with your peers? Pretty much nothing, as far as we’re concerned. That’s why we hold our virtual student clubs, so that students have an opportunity to connect with each other over their shared passions. They’re definitely not the only ones who can’t get enough graphic novels or begs to stay up late playing Minecraft. So why not help them explore what they love with their peers and solve creative challenges together?

MoPOP’s virtual Graphic Novels Club provides a unique opportunity for students to bond with fellow nerds while cultivating a natural love for reading. Each month, we’ll use a graphic novel (or two) to explore social justice topics and issues such as LGBTQ+ and Black stories, climate change, immigrant equity, and more. With separate tracks for readers ages 9–11 (Blue Club) and ages 12–14 (Red Club), sessions will alternate between discussions about the books and creating art inspired by our favorite cartoonists and graphic novelists.

Here's what’s coming up:

  • March: Studio Ghibli with books like My Neighbor Totoro and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
  • April: More of Studio Ghibli with books like Kiki’s Delivery Service and Howl’s Moving Castle
  • May: The Avatar: The Last Airbender series with titles like Avatar: The Lost Adventures and Team Avatar Tales
  • June: More of the Avatar: The Last Airbender series with titles like Katara and the Pirate’s Silver and Suki, Alone

Club meetings occur on Zoom from 4:00–5:00pm PT each Tuesday and registration is $10 per month, not including books.
