To celebrate 20 years of the Museum of Pop Culture, we're highlighting 20 of the most notable moments from MoPOP's history. For our nonprofit museum's 13th milestone (see the first 12 milestones at the bottom of this blog!), we're putting the focus on the 2011 launch of our Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses exhibition.

In 2011, two decades after Nirvana exploded on the national music scene, transforming Seattle and the Pacific Northwest from a faraway backwater to the epicenter of popular music culture, we launched the exhibition Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses. This exhibition was created in conjunction with the local Seattle music community, and explores the public and personal story of Nirvana, from their early roots in Aberdeen, Washington, to the dizzying scope of the world stage.
