I.C.Y.M.I.: Tour MoPOP's 'Pearl Jam: Home and Away' Exhibition With Eddie Vedder + Jeff Ament!
Greetings, fellow pop culture aficionados, and welcome to week 29 of our I.C.Y.M.I. (In Case You Missed It) blog series. Our museum may be temporarily closed to visitors based on guidance from public health officials to slow the spread of coronavirus, but we're still here to recap a handful of trending tidbits from the past week(s) in popular culture, in case you missed them.
Last week, we recapped the REFILL virtual benefit concert series, which featured a handful of MoPOP Sound Off! alum performing in support of the Seattle Artist Relief Fund (SARF). This week, we begin by hearing from another local act, which has an exciting opportunity in store for some lucky fans. Read on!
Tour MoPOP With Members of Pearl Jam!
Want to hang out with Pearl Jam at MoPOP, exploring 30 years of the band's history over drinks and incredible stories? Of course you do! The band has lined up that opportunity for one lucky fan and their guest to be flown out to Seattle, put up in Pearl Jam's suite at The Edgewater Hotel, and meet Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament at MoPOP for a private tour of our Pearl Jam: Home and Away exhibition.
"And we would answer all your questions," says Vedder. "Like, 'how many guitar picks does Mike McCready throw out on any given night? Or 'how many bottles of red wine do you go through on a tour?'"
Fans can enter for a chance to win through Omaze.com, which has set up donation-based entry levels benefiting the Vitalogy Foundation, started by Pearl Jam and their manager in 2006 to advance social change, including access to voting. No donation or payment is necessary to enter or win the sweepstakes, but the more you donate, the more entries to win you'll get.
The deadline to enter is October 30, with a winner announced on or around November 11. The timing of the tour is still to be determined as Pearl Jam acknowledges, "Your safety and peace of mind is our top priority, so this experience will be scheduled when it’s safe to travel and convenient for our partners."

What Else To Catch Up On This Weekend
- Our POP+ Punk celebration of women's contributions to all things punk hit high gear on the blog this past week, as we revisited an oral history interview with punk band Sleater-Kinney, went 'Into the Vault' for a look at a dress shirt worn and signed on the collar by singer-songwriter Patti Smith, and highlighted a handful of riot grrrl zines from the MoPOP Permanent Collection.
- Our POP+ Punk book club wraps up next Monday, August 31 with a discussion on Carrie Brownstein's Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl (which you can register for right now). Our conversation will feature special guest Slim Moon, founder of the independent music label Kill Rock Stars.
- In partnership with Seattle International Film Festival, the 15th annual Science Fiction + Fantasy Short Film Festival (SFFSFF) takes place virtually this Saturday, August 29, with an encore screening to follow online on Sunday, August 30. Ahead of this weekend's festivities, we caught up with actor/writer Aaron Douglas and writer/designer Kate Dollarhyde, who served as jurors for this year's festival. Tickets for both days of SFFSFF can be purchased right here.
- And for those keeping tabs on our milestone series celebrating 20 notable moments from MoPOP's 20-year history, our latest entry took a look back at our very first traveling exhibition, Artist to Icon: Early Photographs of Elvis, Dylan, and the Beatles.
